A local perspective with co-owner Myles Pritchard.

Nestled along Sri Lanka’s stunning south coast in Ahangama, a new 9-bedroom adults-only boutique hotel redefines serene luxury. This exclusive beachfront retreat, inspired by Moroccan architecture, exudes warmth and elegance while perfectly complementing the breathtaking ocean views. Every detail has been meticulously curated to provide an unforgettable experience, making it an ideal haven for those seeking tranquility and indulgence.

A Vision Realized

Co-owner of The Find, Myles Pritchard, a celebrated fashion and travel photographer—and close friend of mine—, has brought his eye for beauty and storytelling to Sri Lanka. Over the last 18 months, he’s turned a crumbling shell of a building into a luxurious coastal retreat. “It wasn’t exactly glamorous, let’s put it that way,” he jokes. “There were days where I was knee-deep in rubble, thinking, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ But honestly, seeing it all come together is one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done.”

Myles’ aesthetic combines Moroccan-inspired architecture with a breezy, laid-back vibe. “I wanted it to feel timeless but relaxed—like you’ve stepped into a space where the world slows down. It’s all about bringing the beauty of the outside in, without trying too hard.”

Overcoming Challenges

The road to opening wasn’t smooth. Myles battled cyclones, supply chain chaos, and the red tape of Sri Lankan bureaucracy. “Cyclones? Sure. Delayed shipments? Fine. But learning to navigate the local permit process? That was the real workout,” he says with a grin.

Still, he embraced the challenges. “I got my hands dirty—not just because it needed to be done but because it made me part of the process. I wanted my team to feel like we were building something together. And hey, I’m really good at mixing cement now.” His collaborative approach fostered a strong bond with the local builders, whose craftsmanship is evident in every detail of the hotel.

“You’ve got world-class surf breaks right on your doorstep, but it’s not overrun like some other places. There’s still this sense that you’re discovering it for yourself.”

Ahangama: A Coastal Paradise

Once a quiet fishing village, Ahangama is quickly becoming a sought-after destination for travelers. Set between world-class surf breaks, the area offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural vibrancy. Myles fell in love with the location’s raw charm and potential for adventure.

“This place has this raw, untamed charm that just pulls you in,” Myles says. “You’ve got world-class surf breaks right on your doorstep, but it’s not overrun like some other places. There’s still this sense that you’re discovering it for yourself.”

Beyond the shoreline, Ahangama is a gateway to exploring lush tea plantations, ancient temples, and bustling markets.

Local Recommendations

To help guests fully immerse themselves in the local experience, Myles has created a curated local guide, The Find, on Journey Maker. “I want every guest to experience the authenticity of Sri Lanka,” Myles explains. Here are a few highlights from his recommendations:

  • Kabalana Surf Spot: “If you’re hitting the waves, Kabalana is where it’s at. Even if you’re a beginner, the vibe’s super chill.”
  • The Kip Café: “Start your day at The Kip. It’s the kind of place where you can lose hours over a good coffee and avocado toast that’s way too good for its own good.”
  • Kathaluwa Old Temple: A historic Buddhist temple featuring intricate, colorful murals that tell stories of Sri Lankan culture.
  • Dreamsea Surf Camp: Offering surf lessons, beachfront accommodations, and a pool, it’s a great spot to unwind and mingle with fellow travelers.

“These places showcase the essence of Ahangama—its culture, hospitality, and natural beauty,” Myles says. “I want guests to feel like they’ve truly discovered something special.”

“And if you’re feeling more adventurous, try roti from a roadside stand. It’s messy, spicy, and ridiculously tasty. Just don’t ask for cutlery.”

Myles’ top 10 tips for getting the most out of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka isn’t just having a moment—it’s a full-on explosion of energy and discovery. Once flying under the radar, the island is now one of the world’s hottest destinations, thanks to its untouched beaches, rich culture, and killer surf. Myles shares his laid-back, insider tips for exploring Sri Lanka like a pro.

1. Surf Early, Sip Late

“If you’re into surfing—or want to give it a go—get up early,” Myles says. “The waves are best in the morning, and it’s cooler. Plus, the locals are out, so you get to watch some real pros.” For après-surf vibes, Myles recommends grabbing a cold beer at a beachside café. “There’s nothing better than swapping surf stories with strangers as the sun sets.”

2. Skip the Touristy Spots (Sometimes)

“Sure, Galle Fort is beautiful, but Sri Lanka’s charm lies in the smaller, less polished places. Hit up villages like Koggala or Weligama and just wander. Chat with locals, grab some street food, and let the day take you where it will.”

3. Find the Hidden Cafés

“Not all the best spots are obvious,” Myles says with a grin. “For a killer breakfast, head to The Kip. It’s got great coffee and a cozy vibe. For something completely local, try a roadside roti stand—trust me, it’ll blow your mind.”

4. Make Friends With a Tuk-Tuk Driver

“Forget taxis—tuk-tuks are the way to go. Find a driver you vibe with and stick with them for your trip. They’ll know all the shortcuts, the best food spots, and even help you haggle at the markets.”

5. Go Big on the Markets

“Speaking of markets, the ones here are insane,” Myles says. “Head to Unawatuna Market for fresh fruits or Galle Market for spices and handmade trinkets. There’s no better souvenir than a bag of fresh Sri Lankan cinnamon.”

6. Lounge the Local Way

“Beach hammocks are the unsung heroes of Sri Lanka. Find one, swing for hours, and just let the day drift by. The slower pace here is addictive—it’s like the whole country’s telling you to chill out.”

7. Trust the Local Food

“Don’t be afraid to dive into Sri Lankan cuisine,” Myles insists. “Kottu roti, hoppers, sambals—try it all. And if you’re offered tea, always say yes. It’s not just a drink; it’s a ritual here.”

8. Take the Long Way

“Forget efficiency—Sri Lanka is all about the scenic route. If you’re heading somewhere, take the slow train or a winding road along the coast. It’s not about getting there fast; it’s about enjoying the journey.”

9. Wake Up for the Sunrise

“I know, I know—getting up early doesn’t sound like a holiday. But the sunrises here are something else. Head to a quiet beach, bring a coffee, and just soak it all in. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.”

10. Don’t Plan Too Much

“My biggest tip? Leave room for spontaneity,” Myles says. “Some of my best days here started with no plan at all. Sri Lanka has a way of surprising you—you just have to let it.”

Sustainability at the Core

A key part of Myles’ vision was ensuring the hotel’s sustainability. From sourcing local materials to incorporating energy-efficient systems, every decision was made with environmental impact in mind. “Look, I could’ve gone for the easy route, but where’s the fun in that? We sourced local materials, worked with Sri Lankan artisans, and tried to keep everything as sustainable as possible.

It’s not just about making the place look good—it’s about making sure it feels good, too.” Myles explains.

An Adults-Only Escape

The hotel’s adults-only policy is designed to enhance the atmosphere of serenity and relaxation. This isn’t the spot for rowdy families or big tour groups. “We kept it adults-only because the whole idea is to let people unwind,” Myles says. “Whether you’re a couple looking to recharge or flying solo, it’s a space where you can totally zen out.”

From lounging in the beachfront pool to enjoying a sunset cocktail, every detail is designed for indulgence. The on-site restaurant offers a menu inspired by local ingredients and flavors, reimagined with a modern twist. “You’ve got the infinity pool, yoga sessions with ocean views, and food that’s all about local flavors done right. It’s indulgence without the fuss,” Myles adds.

A New Chapter in Sri Lankan Hospitality

This boutique hotel is not just a reflection of Myles’ artistic vision but also a testament to the resilience and collaboration of the team that built it. “This project has been a labor of love,” Myles says. “It’s been humbling, challenging, and rewarding all at once.”

Myles hopes that the hotel will inspire guests to fall in love with Sri Lanka the way he has. “It’s more than a hotel—it’s an experience,” he emphasizes. “I’m excited to share this beautiful part of the world with travelers.”

For those ready to explore Sri Lanka’s south coast and immerse themselves in a world of luxury, tranquility, and adventure, this new boutique hotel is the perfect destination.
